So what does NLP mean?
3 words…neuro…linguistic….programming.
Neuro: We all have a unique mental map formed as a result of our bodies processing the millions of bits of data our senses take in from the world that surrounds us. These neurological bits of data are then transformed in our mind by an internal filtering system into sensations (feelings), sounds, images and shapes, smells and tastes. In NLP, this first mental map is called 'First Access'.
Linguistic: Our mind then transforms the experience into 'representations' combined with past memories, experiences, beliefs and values to create a second mental map resulting in our conscious awareness. And from this we use our native language to express ourselves and describe our experiences. This second map of our natural language is sometimes referred to as 'Linguistic Representation'.
Programming: A combination of the neuro and linguistic maps that create what we experience - and the actions, communication and behaviors we display in real life.
In its 3rd generation since commencement back in the seventies NLP was created by two people with wanton curiosity and a desire to explore several individuals who were producing excellent results in their chosen field. The method used in the initial creation of the work that Dr. John Grinder and Richard Bandler produced became the core concept of NLP called Modeling.
